" Equally important, the career of teacher will become more attractive than it is now. Talented people seek jobs that entrust them with important things.” (213)"

Admins forget and managers of all professions often fail to realize this. It is the cornerstone of rebuilding the teaching profession. We, as teachers, need to take back our responsibility and creativity in solving problems.

I am grateful for your posts and to stay informed on the changes taking place with the NYC DOE on social media. Being able to see that a student is in crisis could save a life! I really hope that my daughter Juliet will be able to be in your class next year. You are a very special teacher and your students are lucky to have you.

This is not a surprise. This is why I do not allow open access to Facebook and have taken away an ipod touch device as it was constant distraction. It is one thing to multitask when you are folding laundry but I believe listening to music and working on homework mixed with a chat or two w a friend is not the recipe for success.
I read your posts all the time - thanks Stephen!

That's awesome, heady stuff! Steve, have you ever taken students to DC for a Close Up Foundation week? I used to work full time, but efficacy and meeting with Capitol Hill Senators/Representatives (or staff) is the driving purpose of the program, if you are not already acquainted with it. (Other features include meeting students from around the country and interacting with them about contemporary political issues; ways for youth to be involved, today, not at some future date; and using the city and its momunments to teach about government functions and policies and where citizens fit in the equation.) Knowing what I do about your pedagogy you have much in common with their methodology.
